...In page 14, a prestigious industrialist talks about maintainers in such a way that there is no reply left. In page 18, you will find the opinion of an outstanding British journalist about a similar situation in Great Britain. In page 52, we reproduce an exhaustive study about the maintenance cost of an elevator, carried out by FACARA (Argentine Federation of Elevators). The British will handle their situation, but we must handle ours. Please read carefully all this and you will reach to the conclusion, mostly in terms of costs, that it is very difficult to find a maintenance company that complies exactly with those requirements. Although some of them may reasonably reach these standards, other companies, probably most of them, do their best in spite of the low payments received in many cases.
This magazine has always claimed that the State (in this case the Government of the City of Buenos Aires and the municipalities of all the cities in the country) should urgently try to find a solution to the mentioned situation. It can be argued that as this issue belongs to the private sector, the authorities are not allowed to take action in this matter. We suggest using the same imagination brought into play for issues such as the failed seals or the precarious PVA (Professional Elevator Inspectors) to apply, without invading foreign jurisdictions, methods or systems which may allow the maintainers under unstable situations to recover. At the same time, we also suggest multiplying the number of inspectors for an efficient control of the existing equipments. On the other hand, individuals should interpret the reality of the payments and conclude that a few cents increase can help to provide better security to yourselves and your relatives. Please do not skimp on such a little amount which cannot concern almost anyone! How long will this situation last? |
